The RicercaItaliaAfrica Initiative of Istituto Superiore di Sanità
Istituto Superiore di Sanità, in its mission to globally promote health through research, launches the RicercaItaliaAfrica Initiative to:
– promote networking of Italian researchers active in health research with Africa
– help harmonizing and increasing Italian support for health research with Africa
– strenghten links of Italian health research with African and international institutions
In Africa millions of persons die prematurely for preventable/treatable infections, non-communicable diseases, nutritional deficiencies, inadequate access to health care and intolerable global inequalities. Climate changes, global movement of people and goods and the changing patterns of infectious diseases in Europe indicate that safeguard and improvement of health is a global challenge that needs global approaches.
A partnership with Africa based on equity and aiming to fuel a sustainable development in both continents is a priority for Europe and for Italy and is an integral part of Italy’s commitment to to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals of Agenda 2030. Scientific research, particularly the one promoting global health, is a key element of such a partnership to address societal needs and knowledge gaps on both sides of the Mediterranean.
